Hey,
I’m Gabe and I’m in the 8th Grade. I grew up in Great Falls, Montana in the United States and I’m 13 years old. I like a lot of things in school but i think that my favorite subjects are English and Art. I like to draw as one of my favorite pass times, and I also like to read. I play basketball on my spare time and like to ride my bike around my neighborhood . I have band at my school and I play the trombone. I also take German as my foreign language. At school I’m on the Xtreme team and all of my teachers are really nice and fun to be around. Mr Clark is my science teacher, Mrs. Wren is my Math teacher, Mrs. Howell and Mrs. Keeler are my English teachers, and Mrs. Arnott is my Social Studies teacher (Geography and that type of stuff.)

Here are just a few questions that i have about China. Is your school all year around? Is it Cold there? It gets really cold here in Montana cause we are north. What are some of your hobbies and talents?
Sincerely,
Gabe Alt

Hello Zhang Yan and Liu Chuxi,Nice letters. It looks like you have very good teacher that is teaching you English. Or languages come to naturally. I do not have a Chinese name yet and I can't speak Chinese. I would like to learn though, it seems like a fun language to speak. I get dropped of at my school everyday. I want to be an artist when I grow up. I hope that you get to be a Middle School teacher Alicia. A tradition in my Family is to have a get together every Sunday, eat dinner, and play games. What traditions do you have in China?
We have a holiday coming up called Halloween. It happens every October 31. It is when ghosts and goblins come out and scare people. It was first called all Hallowed Eve I think. Kids dress up into costumes of movie characters or spooky creatures and go out to people's houses and say trick or treat at people's doors. The people then give the children candy and treats. It is a custom in our country that has been around for a very long time. Do you have any holidays like Halloween in China. Could you tell me about your favorite Holiday that you have in China?

Hello Gabe,
How's it going?I'm great!Thank you for telling me about Halloween. It was a really fun festival. Now let me tell you a traditional festival in China--"Qi Xi"(Tanabata). It has a beautiful and romantic legend.
Long long ago,a boy named Cowboy. He's honest and kind-hearted.But his parents died when he was a child. One day,he met a beautful girl. Her name is Weaver Maid and she was a fairy from heaven .With the help of the Cowboy's cow, their acquaintance and fell in love. But unfortunately, the Queen Mother knew it.She would bring the Wearver Maid back.
The Cowboy rode the cow and fiew to heaven. When he was about to catch up with the Weaver Maid, the Queen Mother took off her gold hairpin and made a stroke.A raging river in front of the Cowboy. This is the Milk Way.Cowboy and Weaver Maid were separated forever. They kept crying. Their loyalty to touched magpies,so tens of thousends of magpies came to build a bridge for them to meeting each other. The Queen Mother was eventually moved and allowed them to meet each year on the 7th of the 7th lunar month. This day is called "Qi Xi"(Tanabata)
In fact,Tanabata is also called "Chinese Valentine's Day".In this day, many people will see the sky and hope tosee the Cowboy and the Weaver Maid meet each other on the magpies'bridge. We believe if we can see them,we will meet our Prince Charming and sweetheart lover in dream.
Oh,my family has no traditions because there are only three people in my family,we needn't have any tyaditions,maybe.(>_<)And maybe others families have traditions in China, but I don't know. (_)
Have a good time every day!
Yuors,
Cici

Dear Gabe Alt,
We have many festivals in China. For example, Spring Festival, Moon Festival, National Day , Dragon Boat Festival and so on. In Spring Festival, we will up Spring Festival couplets. In Dragon Boat Festival, we will hold dragon boat race. In every National Day, fire crackers are set off in Tiananmen Square. I like National Day very much. It is my favorite festival. It is very important in China. Now let me tell you why I like it. I can eat my favorite Chinese food during vacation. They are very delicious dumplings. And I also make it. They look like white boats. There are some meat and vegetables in it. If we have a chance, I can teach you how it make them. It is very interesting. I can also get a lot of money. I took the money to buy a bicycle. I told you I like riding on weekends. I help my mother do the chores, too. My mother is very excited. I think I am a nice girl. My friends and I read books in the afternoon. So I like it. What about you? If you come to Jishou, please tell me. I will show you around the city. I will take you to visit interesting places.
Yours,
Alicia

Dear Cici and Alicia
Thank you for informing me on what Festivals you have in China. All of themsound really fun and exciting! That was a great legend about the CowBoy and the Weaver Maid. Maybe some day you will see them walking across the bridge. Did the cowboy have a name or was Cowboy his name? Also National Day sounds fun especially since you get time off. I think that it would be awesome to learn how to make those dumplings. We like to set off fireworks here to but we do it on July 4 we call it Independence Day. Thats the day that we won the war between the British and the US.
What type of music do you listen to in China and what is your guys favorite band? I like to listen to all sorts of music, but my favorite is probably Hip Hop. I would really like to visit China some day and if I do I will be sure to get in touch with you so that you can show me around the city.

Yours,
Gabe Alt
